The Bellflower or Scornlus with its rich purple bell-shaped blossoms is a common sight in the Irish countryside. In folklore they are symbolic of everlasting love, loyalty, humility and affection, and therefore have always been popular additions to wedding bouquets. Purple amethyst is a beautiful stone that holds complimentary symbolism, and is believed to purify the spirit, calm the mind, encourage humility, and promote restful sleep.
