St. Patrick's day is fast upon us; and for those of you who are either Irish born and bred, or Irish in heart and spirit, then you certainly will be proudly displaying your green, white and gold colours on our national day! But how can you do so in a more elegant and fashionable way? Not all of us have a yearning to wear giant shamrock rosettes or green and orange wigs!
Lost Forest is here to the rescue for all your fashion conscious cailíní and buachaillí (girls and boys!). Here are some unique ideas to show your pride for the Emerald Isle. These glittering treasures are also the perfect gift for those who have moved abroad and are missing home, and need a little reminder of the wild and magical beauty of their beloved home country.
For those of you yearning for the rich tales of Irish folklore, then perhaps these tiny shamrock earrings are just the treat for you. The aptly named 'Pixie Shamrock' earrings do indeed look as though they were made by the tiny hands of magical folk. Each handmade pine resin pebble has trapped a single shamrock, plucked straight from the forest floor in the Dublin mountains. A layer of hand gilded 24k gold leaf is sumptuously applied, and creates a dynamic sparkle.
Each handcrafted pair hang from dainty hand formed 14k gold fill French hook wires to complete the look. They're so lightweight, you won't even feel them in your ears, but everyone will certainly notice their magical allure.
Tiny golden pebbles before their finishing touches.
You can also adorn your wrists with an Irish woodland; in the elegant form of a pine resin faceted bangle. Set within the glass-like resin is a whirlwind of lush green moss, collected from the forest floor. 24k gold leaf speckles meander between the tendrils of moss and shimmer with each flick of your wrist. One terminal of the bangle holds a special surprise; two delicate Wood Sorrel leaves or 'Oxalis Acetosella,' which grow in ancient woodlands, and is often known as 'Woodland Shamrock' due to its similar trefoil structure.
The beautiful hidden vistas of the woodlands deep within the Dublin mountains are a treasure trove of botanical delights, and one of my favourite places to gather and collect moss, lichen, mica, ferns and other intriguing specimens.
The rich tones of the Woodland Sorrel are the inspiration behind these stunning green stud earrings. Green and gold is an iconic colour combination historically associated with our wonderful little Island of Ireland. I always naturally sway to these colours whenever I'm working, perhaps it is an inherent predisposition.
We cannot forget the all important sparkle, and these stud earrings are the most glitzy and glamorous accessories you can wear this coming St. Paddy's Day. Cut from natural Irish birch wood, the hearts are then adorned with custom shades of fine glitter in a dazzling spectrum of green and gold glitters. It's an almost impossible task to capture their beauty through the lens of a camera, but I can assure you that they are a sight to be-hold in reality, and are beautifully eye-catching.
For some show stopper pieces, you can never go wrong with mesmerising pine resin crystal pendants. This particular piece was created from a handmade mold of an authentic quartz point I had in my stone and mineral collection (I've been collecting crystals and rocks since I was 8!). The resin is then cast in my signature crystal clear finish, which displays the alluring beauty of the moss within. This crystal also holds another hidden treasure in the form of a glittering shard of mica. I snatched this shard from the icy depths of a woodland waterfall, whose stream was littered with what looked like shining diamonds under the twinkling sun. As you turn the crystal in your hand, the prismatic effect of the sharp contours reveal hidden rainbows, as well as magnifying the intriguing contents within. A true beauty to behold.
Another pine resin crystal has encased spectral forms of lichen in beautiful tones of mint and olive green. The point of the crystal is hand gilded in 24k gold leaf to add a dramatic touch of glamour. This was one of my first crystals I made back in 2013. Its colours are still as fresh today as when it was first made.
The pine resin I use has a superior composition to most resins on the market. Along with my refined and advanced techniques, the results are something you will not see anywhere else, and my technique highlights the inclusions in all their fascinating splendour.
And finally, here's one for the man in your life; real Irish lichen cufflinks. Each handcrafted miniature globe is formed from pine resin and encapsulates beautiful tufts of lichen and 24k gold leaf. The globes are mounted onto high quality stainless steel bases to give a sense of masculinity, strength and classicism.
So, for this St. Patrick's Day, make sure to wear Irish, support Irish, and of course enjoy the celebrations of this unique festival wherever you may be in the world.
